Duncan, BC: This is probably the hippest group that has been brought
to Vancouver Island... humorous, engaging, intense and moving...
regardless of one's stylistic taste. Dedicated to classic rock,
SKETCHY BLACK DOG plays unique spins of Bowie, Zeppelin, Hendrix and
more. Taking timeless rock songs and originals to places both
irreverent and fragile, this piano trio violates and whispers in the
ears of its audience.

"We are creating a wonderful ambiance of afternoon Jazz to celebrate
Canada Day at the winery," stated Wendy Johnston, Proprietor, Averill
Creek Winery. "Please join us for live music by SKETCHY BLACK DOG, a
jazz piano trio joining us after their performance at the TD VICTORIA
INTERNATIONAL JAZZFEST 2011 on Wednesday, June 29 at the Alix Goolden
Hall in Victoria.

SKETCHY BLACK DOG is the brainchild of pianist, Misha Piatigorsky, and
drummer, Chris Wabich, Wabich lives in Los Angeles, where he has
worked with the Zappa family, Sting, Stanley Jordan, Leonard Cohen,
and Ludacris. Russian-born and NY based Piatigorsky is the winner of
the Thelonious Monk Composers Competition, is music director for jazz
legend Mark Murphy and has appeared with Wynton Marsalis, Claudio
Roditi, and Michael Brecker.

Joining them is bass virtuoso Neil Swainson. Three recordings on which
he plays have won Canada's Juno Award: Jon Ballantyne's "Skydance",
P.J. Perry's "My Ideal", and "Free Trade", a cooperative band
featuring Rene Rosnes. Swainson has performed with Moe Koffman, Ed
Bickert, Rob McConnell, James Moody, George Coleman, Jay McShann,
Tommy Flanagan, Lee Konitz, Joe Farrell, Slide Hampton, Woody Shaw,
Don Thompson, Pat LaBarbera, Joe LaBarbera, Jay McShann, Doc Cheatham,
Geoff Keezer, Lorne Lofsky, Kirk MacDonald and others.

SKETCHY BLACK DOG has Vancouver Island family connections and roots -
Neil Swainson was born in Victoria and gained his first professional
music experience on the Island. Misha Piatigorsky married an Island
girl and has in-laws in Oak Bay making appearances on the Islands for
family and fans.
