Sip & Savour Salt Spring!

Sip and Savour Salt Spring will take place on Friday, September 27th and Saturday, September 28th, 2013.

The Festival will bring together growers, food providers and chefs from Salt Spring Island and neighbouring Gulf Islands, Cowichan Valley and Saanich Peninsula, and partners them with vintners representing the wine growing regions of British Columbia.



Salt Spring itself is known as the organic capital of Canada. Its small family farms, artisan food providers and fishing community provide (amongst other items) a bountiful harvest of fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables, breads and cheeses, eggs from free range chickens, famous Salt Spring lamb, daily catches of crab, mussels and oysters - and in September, local sockeye salmon.

Surrounding Salt Spring are the nearby southern Gulf Islands, the verdant Cowichan Valley, the rich plains of the Saanich Peninsula and the other southern Gulf Islands all of which share a similar climate, soils and love of the land and sea and will be contributing both raw food ingredients and their finest chefs to the event.

In addition to the wonderful local food, the area is home to the outstanding wines of the ‘Wine Islands’ region. These wines will be featured together with wines representing all of the wine regions of British Columbia.



On Saturday evening our talented local chefs will be hosting Winemaker's Dinners. The finest fresh ingredients from the gardens, farms and waters of Salt Spring Island will be featured along with regional dishes and paired to perfection with Salt Spring and BC Wines.

On Sunday afternoon, the ocean view orchard next to the Harbour House Hotel will be transformed into a fabulous "grazing experience‟ as visitors will sip fine wines from BC and savour samples of delicious local and regional foods selected to pair with the wines and prepared by local chefs. The unique and compelling idea behind this event is that visitors will see the fresh produce, be able to talk to the grower, ask the chef how they prepared the ingredients and discuss with the vintner how the wines complement the resulting dish - a completely new concept in the area of outdoor wine-tasting events.

Many of Salt Spring Island’s hotels, resorts and B&B’s will be greeting guests with weekend accommodation rates and a special island welcome ! Visitors can also enjoy the famous Saturday Market, go on studio, winery and farm tours, visit a spa or yoga studio, dine at one or more of our excellent restaurants, and enjoy live entertainment at many local venues.

Partial proceeds will support StageCoach School for the Performing Arts Society’s Rising Star Grant Fund which offers theatre programs to children and youth. We are also supporting the initiatives of Island Natural Growers.


Sip and Savour Salt Spring is non-profit festival being organizing by local volunteers from the food, wine and grower communities of the island.
